Will Twitter Come Out With a Native Coin? DOGE holders Remain Hopeful
A new rumour in the crypto community reveal that a new secret project is emerging on Twitter, considering a new native token referred to as the "Twitter Coin"
Users on social media networks reporting rumors that Twitter is looking at introducing its own native asset called “Twitter Coin” which will be used for payments on the platform.
There are those that are citing the initial reports from sources such as Nima Owji, who runs an app-focused information leak account on Twitter. He posted a screenshot of what seems to be a prototype Twitter interface showing a “Coins” option for tipping, along with a vector image showing a coin bearing Twitter’s logo.
Other Twitter users have pointed to tweets from tech researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who said to have extracted code from a version of Twitter’s web app to find the same information as Owji, however the post itself and Wong's account have since been deleted for reasons unknown.
On top of the claims, there has also been a swarm of posts under the TwitterCoin hashtag, with many people excited but ultimately unsurprised that the social media platform could be working on new payment rails and system integrations now that Elon Musk is at the helm.
Members of the Dogecoin community on Twitter have also tried making sense of the situation, with some remaining optimistic that the social media giant's, Twitter-Coin is just a placeholder name for Dogecoin, considering Musk’s long-running affiliation with the meme coin.
Elon Musk also suggested speaking on a similar subject in a December. 4 Twitter Spaces to an audience of over 2 million listeners that he was still interested in integrating crypto with the social media platform. “It is kind of a no-brainer for Twitter to have payments, both fiat and crypto,” Musk said. As for now, the social media giant has been gradually expanding its payment integrations over the past few years, and currently supports fiat tipping for a host method alongside Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), which were integrated in late 2021. Since the Twitter takeover went through, Elon has overseen several network changes to Twitter relating mostly to censorship policy, information disclosures and botting activity.Should you invest $1,000 in DOGE right now?
